  1. A marmot is any of several large burrowing 
  2. RODENT of the genus Marmota, in the squirrel 
  3. family Sciuridae. There are about 15 species. 
  4. They eat plants and some insects. Marmots are 
  5. found throughout Canada and the USA, and from 
  6. the Alps to the Himalayas.
